The Purpose Is the Purpose
Philippians 3:8-9 “What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.”
Luke 10:41-42 “‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’”
Hallelujah!
On the Lord’s Day of this week, I delivered a message with the theme, “Make yourself marvelous and use yourself for God.”
Today, I will preach with the theme: “The purpose is the purpose.”
◎ The purpose is the purpose. You [should] do things solely for what is set as the purpose. People have a variety of purposes they desire. Among them, effort should be made only for the highest purpose. Even if other wishes do not come true, you should strive, aiming only for the highest purpose.
◯ Every person lives for what they aim for. Even if there are all kinds of difficulties, and even if things do not work out as you run into difficulties, you just need to live [moving] toward what you aim for. As long as you achieve what you aim for, it is a success.
◯ Whether buying an ornamental rock or a tree, you should not be disappointed saying what you aimed for is satisfied but other aspects are not. If what you aimed for is satisfied, that is enough. If you try to buy something that is equipped with everything else too, you will be unable to acquire it. Regarding this, it is said, “The purpose is the purpose.” As you live your life, as long as you have what you aimed for, you should live with hope even if you have nothing else.
◯ For example, when each person chooses someone to love, there is something they consider as the top priority. That is their purpose.
- Some make a choice, not looking at anything else but a person’s pretty or handsome face.
- Some make a choice, not looking at anything else but a kind heart.
- Some make a choice only looking at how tall a person is.
- Some make a choice only looking at how good a person is at sports.
- Or, some make a choice only by checking if it is someone who will love them like the sun.
In this way, if what you aim for is satisfying, you should make a choice solely based on that and live [with it]. For other aspects, you must close your eyes and not look at them in the course of your life. If you pay attention to them, you will be disappointed. Consequently, the purpose of the satisfying aspect will also be shattered, which ultimately leads to the shattering of the entire dream you have expected [to fulfill].
◯ Whether it is a pine tree, an ornamental rock, or a garden stone, if it possesses something you desire the most, you should delight in it and take it.
Similarly, in your life too, if something is equipped with what you aim for above all else, you should be fond of the whole thing based on that. All other aspects are like a platform or background that enables the thing you aim for to exist. They are like a coordinated presentation or a John the Baptist.
Therefore, as long as [the subject] is equipped with the thing that is your highest purpose, you should think [it] has shortcomings in other areas for the sake of being equipped with that one thing. The Omniscient and Omnipotent God, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Son, and Jesus said, “Everyone must live with this kind of perspective.” That is why God said, “The purpose is the purpose.”
◎ Other than the equipped aspect that is the purpose,
you will perceive the things that are not equipped as weaknesses or flaws if you look at them, without knowledge,
according to your own mind and thoughts.
The key is to look at only what you aim for and be satisfied.
◯ Even for something you thought was lacking when you saw it without knowledge, if you see it with knowledge after learning, it will prompt you to realize and say, “This, too, is a purpose I wanted”. Therefore, you must discard your erroneous perceptions, thoughts, views, subjectivity, and self-centeredness and examine [it] again and again. If there is still an area lacking even after that, you can just equip [it] by putting in more effort.
◯ Wolmyeongdong has been equipped with God’s ultimate purpose. For other aspects it was not equipped with, [ I ] received God’s design, and everyone took action and toiled together, and thus we equipped it with the things around the highest purpose.
For the Root King Pine, the Bride Pine, the “roots” are the purpose. The roots were satisfying as the set purpose, but its trunk and branches were lacking. So we kept trimming the branches and shaping the tree. Since we did that, it is now well equipped in terms of bulk and branches.
For Wolmyeongdong as well, the core area is well equipped according to the purpose. Wolmyeongdong has the sports field, the Lawn Sanctuary, swimming pools, hills surrounding it in an oval shape, and others—its core is well-equipped like this. However, the narrow path that led to the core 400-meter high area was too steep and problematic. So at first, we opened a path the width of a handspan along the borders of the rice paddies. [But] now, we have paved wider roads, so Wolmyeongdong is [well] equipped not only with the core but also with the peripheral roads. [They are] the paths for the Holy Father, the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Son. The winding paths are S-line great artwork roads.
As long as the core [of something] is equipped like this, you should take it. Afterward, you should develop other aspects by putting in effort.
◯ Similarly for people, too, if they put in effort to develop other lacking aspects after achieving the highest purpose, certain things are made [successfully]. Therefore, regarding your life, you should not say, “I’m equipped with the core purpose, but I’m lacking in other purposes I wish to fulfill. I’m not happy about it,” Instead, you should develop them. If you do not work on those areas just because they are not the core, [you] will criticize and regret even the core.*
{Translation note: Alternatively, “even the core will be under criticism and regretted”}
◎ In the course of life, many problems rise. Sometimes, even existing itself is problematic. Life is about living while solving those problems. Since humans experience hell in both mind and body due to problems, God is giving the answer so that everyone may act upon this Word and thus solve those problems.
◯ God said, “The purpose is the purpose.” This means, “Do not think about other things; as long as what you aim for above all else is equipped, that is enough. You just need to care about the purpose and achieve it. Even if other things did not work out, it is fine as long as you have achieved the purpose. Even if everything else was broken, it is fine as long as what you aimed for was not broken.”
◯ Even after achieving the highest purpose, people pay attention to other things that did not work out, and they are anxious, agonized, concerned, and worried, which leads to all kinds of sufferings. If they have fulfilled the highest purpose, they should rejoice and celebrate. But as they look at the peripheral things, they live in distress. When they do so, they even end up losing the purpose itself while worrying about things other than the purpose.
◯ If you think incorrectly, a heaven of the heart instantly turns into a hell of the heart. God said that human beings live by their thoughts. If you think incorrectly, it becomes a completely different world. Those who get into an accident or caught in a problem do so because they think incorrectly.
The Holy Spirit said, “Even if people think the right way, if they judge while losing their temper, being angry, or feeling hot-headed, their judgment is based on those emotions; therefore, people end up following erroneous thoughts of trying to vent their anger.”
◯ Those who live for God’s Will suffer and live being treated unjustly because of people who have thought incorrectly like this. However, those who do not know this fact think, mistakenly, that the person [of God] suffers because he did something wrong.
◯ Since God created human beings precisely, you must live using yourself precisely just as God created you. Try to find within yourself what to use. You will find it only if you take action.
◯ God made it so that humans would live ruling over all things in heaven and earth.
(Gen 1:27–28) “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’”
(Ps 8:6) “You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet.”
Since God created human beings as beings second only to Himself, you must search out what God created and how, and use that power. Because God created you, if you develop yourselves, you [will see that] each of you has many abilities. You must find them and develop them.
◯ In Wolmyeongdong as well, we kept searching and found as many as 21 unique geographical shapes given by God. In this way, you must search and find out the good things about yourselves, about Providence, about me, Seonsang, and about various things of the present as well. Only then will you not be disappointed, but you will rejoice and realize [about] you who cannot be traded even for the whole world.
◯ People are anxious because of problems; they agonize and worry. You must solve problems by praying and thus putting into action and exercising the power of God, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Son, and the Lord that God granted you. Even though God Himself has granted you [the abilities and power], if you do things without finding the abilities, talents, authority, and power you possess, you cannot solve the problems.
◯ In an extreme situation, if you use your abilities and thoughts to the extreme, the things that have been unattainable will be attainable. A heavy rock cannot be moved with ordinary strength. If you exert all your strength, struggle, and use your brain, you can somehow move it even by yourself. This is the same with abilities, methods, and the power of your thoughts.
You must become one with the Almighty God, and have your body keep taking action with the capability* given by God. If you keep taking action, you will become skillful, and so you will accomplish even the impossible. If you keep taking action, you can do [things] competently with high-level thoughts and abundant abilities.*
{Translation: 능력 may be translated as “power, ability, or capability.”}
◯ With a [certain] ornamental rock, before buying it, I thought, “It just needs to have a mountain and a pool. That is my purpose, so I will be satisfied just [with that].” I searched for an ornamental rock with that purpose and found one. I thought “It has both a mountain and a pool, a pond, so this is good. I have found my purpose!” and I purchased it since the price was good too.
However, as time passed, I thought, “It would’ve been better if it were equipped with one more thing—I wish this ornamental rock were slightly larger.” Then I thought, “Let me look for something bigger than this,” and searched. But there was really nothing [else], and what was available was too expensive. To be able to buy that, I would have to sell something else.
When I prayed, the Holy Spirit said, “Look for good things in the ornamental rock that was purchased.” So I asked them to take many pictures and send them to me. I found several unique features [of that rock]. Since then, it looked more precious as a garden stone, and more artistic. I was able to get rid of the regret caused by [my] erroneous perception. Since I knew the key purpose, I had it presented with its sides made more noticeable. When I did that, the deficiencies were filled in. In this way, you must keep finding good things in both yourself and others.
◯ This is how our lives are, too. People plead with God about a certain set purpose, “Please resolve just this one problem.” So, it is solved.
But after [it is resolved], they ask for something else. Then, while saying that their [new] request is not granted, they do not give thanks for even the fulfillment of their initial purpose.
◯ Once things have turned out according to your highest purpose, you must live while giving thanks and rejoicing. You should rejoice as long as your highest purpose has been fulfilled. Because of the endeavor of fulfilling the highest purpose, other areas are relatively inferior. You can simply set the peripheral things as purposes and work on them too. You must understand this in living your life.
For example, with an ornamental rock as well, if one area is outstanding, other areas become weak points. In other words, when a high mountain and a pond were created by wearing waterflow, other peripheral areas became inferior. You must see people, me, Seonsang, and all things in this way.
◯ If someone does a good job in one area that is the purpose you want [to fulfill], you must be satisfied. You should praise them and treat them well. If you chose someone because of their heart, you must be satisfied as long as their heart is good. This is what you ought to do among yourselves—regarding your spouse, the church members, the leading pastor of your church, and all people of Providence. It means: “The purpose is the core. If you have achieved it, it is satisfying. Since someone [whose service] you use, too, fits your purpose, you have them work for you, keeping this in mind. Be satisfied as long as they do that job well.”
◯ If you expect something other than the purpose, it will fall short of your expectations, which leads to fights and disappointment. This is why those who married end up separating or even divorcing. You must look only at the purpose as you initially decided, and as long as that purpose has been achieved, you must live satisfied. If you do, since you do not have other expectations, you will continue to fulfill the initial purpose well.
◎ This is the core of today’s message.
◯ You looked for a man of salvation in order to be saved. If that person enabled you to receive salvation from God, you must be satisfied with just that and follow while testifying for him. As for other things besides that, you are not satisfied because you have not opened your eyes of perception and so you do not know. You must open your eyes of perception.
Among the people of Providence, some of you still do not know me, Seonsang properly. This is because you have not opened your eyes of perception. If you are in this state, you cannot receive what God gives through Seonsang. You must truly learn properly. Leaders and main church pastors must thoroughly teach all the people within their domain.
◯ Also, the purpose of believing in God is going to Heaven; therefore, even if other things do not work out, you must certainly achieve this one purpose.
◯ I bid you the peace of the Holy Spirit’s love.
